This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with CBS News, reports Ukrinform.
According to Zelensky, since December 2025, Russia has begun to lose initiative on the battlefield, and he shared this information with his American partners.
“In January, I told them (partners – edit.), that in my opinion, we have a window for negotiations because every month they (Russia – edit.) will lose more and more people and because of this, they will lose the initiative on the battlefield. Now they have started to launch massive missile strikes against us, and the main reason why they are doing this is that they have started to lose on the battlefield,” the President noted.
He stated that the enemy has not managed to occupy more territory in a month than Ukrainian forces are liberating.
“So now we have this period of time before winter. Therefore, I believe that… before the start of winter, we need to find a way, a diplomatic way, to sit down and talk,” Zelensky said.
At the same time, he pointed out that this depends on the internal pressure on Putin from his society, as well as on the sanctions pressure from the US and Europe on Russia. In this regard, he emphasized the need to impose new sanctions.
“This is good, this is a diplomatic path,” stated the President of Ukraine.
As Ukrinform reported, the commander of the Third Assault Brigade, Brigadier General Andriy Biletskyi, stated that Ukraine has a “window” of several months to seize the initiative on the battlefield from Russia and strengthen its positions for peace negotiations.
