The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, reported on the unsatisfactory condition of the children’s camp “Artek”, located in Pushcha-Vodytsia near Kyiv. Numerous parental complaints on social networks prompted an unscheduled inspection. This was reported by “Glavkom” with reference to the ombudsman’s post.
The monitoring group of the Ombudsman’s Office, which worked on the territory of the institution, recorded mass violations of sanitary and safety standards:
- Dirt, broken furniture, mold, fungus, and ants, which had spread from the living quarters to the canteen, were found in the children’s rooms.
- Rotten fruits were found in the kitchen, and daily samples were not available for all dishes. However, law enforcement officers and monitors discovered bottles of alcohol in the staff’s utility rooms. Coffee machines were also freely accessible to younger children.

According to Lubinets, after the publication about similar problems in the “Artek” camp in Transcarpathia, parents began to massively write about similar stories in other health resorts, which indicates a systemic problem. One mother noted that she took her child from the camp exhausted and “thin as from a concentration camp.”
The ombudsman has sent official letters and demands an immediate response from the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine regarding the bringing of perpetrators to justice and verification of the actual category of the institution.
Recall that the children’s camp “Artek” in occupied Crimea faced problems after a series of attacks on the peninsula. According to parents’ reports, some children were not admitted to the camp, and individual shifts may have been canceled.
