As Ukrinform reports, this is reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.
The Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Hanna Starostenko, noted that it is important for the capital not only to preserve historical sites but also to return them to the community as living cultural spaces through which the city can speak about its own history and traditions of self-government.

According to her, this is a very symbolic opening for Kyiv Day, as Kyiv was one of the first cities in Eastern Europe to receive Magdeburg Law in the 15th century, which allowed the community to independently make decisions regarding the city’s development, trade, taxation, and law and order.

“It was then that a culture of responsibility of community representatives for their city and the tradition of city self-government, which exists in various forms today, was formed. Unfortunately, over the centuries, there have been numerous attempts to distort and rewrite the history of Kyiv, particularly through imperial narratives that diminished the city’s role as an important European center,” added Starostenko.
As the Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration emphasized, that is why such museums today have a special mission – they help to restore historical truth about the capital and remind us once again that Kyiv has always been and remains a European city with a strong, active community, its own identity, and a tradition of self-government.

She added that in 2025, restoration work was completed at the museum, including the renewal of interior decoration elements, the installation of an external foundation around the entrance, and the modernization of internal heating networks.
The First Deputy Director of the Department for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, Serhiy Saburov, noted that during the restoration, the task was not only to preserve the authenticity of the monument but also to breathe new life into it – to make the museum space modern, comfortable, and accessible to all visitors.
“Revitalezation is very important, as it allows us not only to preserve the past but also to keep the living history and culture of Kyiv for future generations. By knowing our roots, we more clearly realize our centuries-old connection with European culture. Today, this exhibition gives everyone the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of old Podil and see how the capital lived in the 17th-18th centuries,” he emphasized.

The “Kamyanytsia of the Kyiv Mayor” is a unique monument of Ukrainian Baroque of the late 17th – early 18th centuries, considered the oldest surviving residential building in Kyiv. Located in Podil, it was built during the period of active development of the city during the Hetmanate era and is associated with the Bykovsky family, whose representatives held the position of Kyiv Mayor.
The architecture of the building is distinguished by arched loggias, pilasters, and an asymmetrical composition, and part of its appearance was recreated during the restoration in the 20th century, taking into account the features of the Baroque period. Throughout its history, the house has served various functions – from a private residence to public institutions, while preserving authentic elements of its layout and interiors.
The museum, located at: Kostiantynivska Street, 6/8, is open to visitors: Wednesday – Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00, Friday from 11:00 to 17:45, Monday, Tuesday – days off.
As Ukrinform reported, an exhibition of art works «Unbreakable City» was opened at the «Zoloti Vorota» metro station for Kyiv Day.
