The case was under court review for over two years and ultimately collapsed
The Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv released the accused of hooliganism from criminal liability “due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.” This is reported by “Glavkom” with reference to the court register.
According to the case materials, in May 2023, a conflict erupted on Yevhen Kovpak Street, 17, in Kyiv, between the accused, who was driving a Mercedes, and the victim, a Toyota driver. The woman asked the man to move his car elsewhere, as it was obstructing the free passage of other vehicles. The accused refused.
When the lawyer got out of the car and headed towards the building, the Toyota driver approached him and repeated her request. This time, the accused swore at her and hit her on the head three times with a Louis Vuitton branded bag.
Additionally, the man noticed the victim holding an Apple iPhone 14, on which she was recording the hooligan act. He snatched it and threw it on the asphalt. As a result, the device was damaged.
In the court hearing, which took place at the end of May 2026, the defense counsel for the accused filed a motion to release the client from criminal liability. The reason is that more than three years have passed since the act of hooliganism, which allows justice to release the person from punishment and close the case.
In court, the prosecutor did not object to the defense’s motion. However, the victim and her lawyer objected; both complained that justice had not ensured a timely review of the case and had not passed a verdict.
In his conclusions, the judge explained that hooliganism falls under the category of criminal offenses. A person is released from criminal liability if the statute of limitations has expired from the date of the commission of the criminal offense until the date the verdict enters into legal force. In this case, it is about three years.
“The court repeatedly raised the question with the accused, considering his denial of guilt, about continuing the proceedings with the rendering of a certain verdict, but the accused categorically refused to continue the court hearing and insisted on his release from criminal liability,” the ruling states.
It should be noted that the accused has held a license for legal practice since 1994.

In the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv, a domestic conflict between former cohabitants ended in a bloody massacre. A man who came to the woman’s aid received five stab wounds to the torso. The incident occurred in the entrance of a residential building on Ostafiy Dashkevych Street. A quarrel broke out between a local resident and her former common-law husband over unresolved relationship issues. In the heat of the conflict, the Kyiv resident called her 41-year-old acquaintance, who was nearby, and asked her to protect her.
