Any negotiations with the current Russian Federation leadership are unlikely to be possible.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Ukrinform by Volodymyr Yelchenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Head of the International Policy Research Department of the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation.
“I do not believe in the realism of any negotiations with the current Russian regime. It is absolutely impossible to negotiate with the current leadership of Russia. To be honest, I don’t even believe in negotiations with the next Russian regime,” Yelchenko stated, referring to his experience as ambassador to Russia from 2010 to 2015.
According to the diplomat, in Russia, “almost all ministers, prime ministers, deputy prime ministers are all the same circle” of people, more or less close to Putin, and they are all brainwashed by Russian propaganda, which they themselves produce. Yelchenko sees no one in the Russian establishment today who would be capable of changing their mind.
The diplomat also has little faith in the reality of rapid revolutionary changes in Russia that could bring truly new people to power.
At the same time, Yelchenko is convinced that Ukraine will not wait until Putin is gone and the regime in Moscow somehow transforms. According to him, recent events confirm this.
“We are already capable of producing our own serious weapons. Of course, this is all with the help of our partners in the West… Some Ukrainian weapons are produced abroad by our manufacturers. This trend must continue,” the diplomat emphasized.
Yelchenko is the former ambassador of Ukraine to the USA and Russia, a two-time head of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN, ambassador to Austria, and permanent representative of Ukraine to international organizations in Vienna.
As Ukrinform reported, the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck four fuel infrastructure sites in the Stavropol Krai of the Russian Federation over the last day, and also hit three Russian shadow fleet tankers in the waters of the Black Sea.
