Sybiha informed Rutte about increasing threats from the Russian Federation and Belarus: We need strong collective deterrence 05/21/2026 21:45 Ukrinform Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiha reported substantive negotiations with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte following his arrival at the Alliance’s ministerial meeting in Helsingborg, Sweden.
The Minister wrote about this on the social network X, Ukrinform reports.
“I informed the Secretary General about the escalating threats from Russia to Ukraine and the broader European region emanating from Belarus. We require robust collective deterrence to prevent miscalculations by the regimes in Moscow and Minsk,” the post stated.
During the meeting, the head of the Ukrainian MFA discussed with the NATO Secretary General the latest battlefield dynamics, Ukraine’s long-range sanctions against Russia, which the Ukrainian minister described as exceptionally successful, and the necessity for further development of the PURL initiative.
“We also addressed peace efforts and Europe’s role. To advance diplomacy, pressure on Moscow remains critically important. I reiterated that sanctions should not be eased,” Sybiha wrote.
He also thanked Rutte for his “significant work in strengthening NATO” and for his support of Ukraine.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Sweden remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine and is also an important member of NATO, particularly due to its defense technologies and implementation of the “total defense” concept.
