As Ukrinform reports, the head of state announced this in his evening address.
“Today, we also have a special reason to thank Britain: the British detained a Russian oil tanker off their shores, and this is the first such step by the British,” the President noted.
According to him, the detentions of Russian shadow fleet vessels in European seas have become a good tradition over the past year. “Oil must be stopped for the Russian war to approach its end. Thank you, Britain,” Zelensky emphasized.
In addition, he noted that from next week, they will discuss with partners in Europe how “legislative changes will finally allow for the longer-term arrest of tankers that earn money for Putin’s war, exclusively for him, and confiscate this oil.”
The President stressed that the week will be important, and Ukraine expects results.
“First of all, of course, air defense for Ukraine, political agreements that will strengthen our defense here in Ukraine, the opening of a cluster – a cluster for Ukraine and Moldova, and steps towards long-term peace: we will discuss some non-public ideas with our partners,” Zelensky announced.
In addition, he emphasized that this summer everyone needs to be as effective and active as possible, and not lose a single day or opportunity. “We expect results from next week and we are working, working towards it,” the head of state concluded.
As Ukrinform reported, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that on Sunday morning, the British Armed Forces intercepted the Russian shadow fleet oil tanker Smyrtos while it was attempting to pass through the English Channel.
